Modern Freakshow - Research

I know that linking body modification to fashion is going to be a tricky task due to social reaction to them and how strict the fashion industry is in terms of hiring models, they wont hire a women who has a slightly larger waist or is slightly shorter than the average model let alone one covered in tattoos. To research how I may do this I looked into fashion designers themselves and how they present their work. Cara Delevingne for the 2015 Met Gala wore tattoo art as a form of fashion rather than a ball gown. Along side Delevingnes Stella McCartney jumpsuit she also was accessorise by tattooist Bang Bang with temporary oriental flowers and bird tattoos. Although this did catch the eye of the media due to it being such an abstract style, it was displayed by the fashion industry as 'Art' and 'fashion' and so accepted. This does prove that tattoos and body modification can be accepted into the fashion industry but only if it is set out to be a work of fashion and art and not a form of alterntativism and escaping the norms of society
