Contemporary 'Freak'.

It is fair to say that traditional 'Freaks' are no longer labelled; possibly due to human rights. As we move into a more Post-modern society people are actually choosing to move out of the social norm and become 'Freaks' themselves. Body modifications are becoming more and more accepted into today's society, people such as teachers if they choose can be covered in tattoos if they please. Is the true meaning for peoples lack of reaction and emotion towards images like Eisenmanns because we have actually cooled down to the view of people with abnormal body's due to body modification?
Grace Neutral.
Grace Neutral is one of many tattoo artist which has chose to push her body to the extreme and make her own body into a piece of art. Not only by covering her body in artwork, Neutral has also chosen to join the body modification craze and so has had various types of alteration done to her body. This includes tattooing the whites of her eyes, tongue splitting, pixie ears, scarification and having her belly button removed. Neutral suggests that she wants to 'Push physical boundaries' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n81hmoeeovM) with her body and break this idea of the norm. Is normality too boring for contemporary society? Do we in fact wish to be 'Freaks'?
Despite this, although more and more people are choosing to do alternative modifications to their body's, i do still feel that society has still not accepted the idea of being a 'Freak'. For an experiment today i went into Indigo Tattoo Studio in Norwich and asked about getting a tattoo on my hand. They told me that they refuse to tattoo anyone's hands, neck or face as they suggested that finding a job or even being aloud in certain bars and clubs would be uncertain as tattoos are still rejected by society. To gather more of an understanding on peoples reactions to people with abnormal bodies, i am going to show a range of people an image of both a person with extreme body modifications and human oddities, this way i can get a primary understanding of the topic.
